Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Teacher’s Day is just around the corner, and it gives us the perfect chance to celebrate those who’ve shaped us, guided us, and stayed with us in spirit long after the final bell rang. While we often associate teachers only with those who have taught us in schools or colleges, there are those people who have mentored us in various aspects of life, advised and guided us in difficult times, people who flash before our eyes in certain moments, specially on listening to certain songs! Let’s talk about those songs today- songs that take you back to that pure, life-long bond of the guru and shishya.

1. Yeh Kaun Chitrakar HaiBoond Jo Ban Gaye Moti (1967)

Lyricist Bharat Vyas, music composer Satish Bhatia and singer Mukesh wove pure magic through this beautiful song back in 1967. While the song talks about the painter (God) who created a stunning picture (world) i.e mountains, sun, moon, rivers and forests, it symbolically highlights the qualities a good teacher entails- a good teacher encourages you to observe, question and appreciate, stay curious and ask the right questions, to be grateful and put things into perspective. It is a poetic metaphor for how teachers shape the way students see the world.

2. Humko Mann Ki Shakti DenaGuddi (1971)

We have all sung this song in our morning school assemblies! This prayer anthem, about inner strength, compassion, and truth, the values teachers strive to cultivate in students, was written by Gulzar sahab, and the moment you hear it, you are teleported back to your school days, leaving you nostalgic.

3. Hum Laye Hain Tufan Se – Jagriti (1954)

Sang by the legendary Mohammad Rafi, hum laye hai tufan se, is a patriotic anthem showcasing how teachers always protect their students from challenges in life while passing on the responsibility to safeguard the nation’s progress and honour.

4. Insaf Ki Dagar Pe – Ganga Jamuna (1961)

This beautiful anthem urging children to walk the path of justice and truth, and uphold righteousness for a better tomorrow, was written by Shakeel  Badayuni. It encourages the youth to become just and fair leaders and bring about a positive change in the world.

5. Gaadi Bula Rahi Hai – Dost (1974)

Sang by the iconic Kishore Kumarji, this song is a perfect metaphor of how teachers are like station masters—they guide us to catch the right train, not mess up our journey, and remind us that life is always about moving ahead. They help us in finding the right path, and keep us going towards our destination.

6. Nanhe Munne Bachche Teri Mutthi Mein Kya Hai – Boot Polish (1954)

Raj Kumarji’s cinematic production, Boot Polish, tells us a story of two orphaned kids forced into begging but saved by a man, who pushes them to live with dignity and self-respect by working (polishing boots) instead of begging, metaphorically showing that how one right mentor/guide/person can change lives. This song, directly addressed to children, uplifts them and gives them the faith to believe that their tiny hands can shape something as huge as destiny. It captures the nurturing side of a teacher—someone who sees greatness in their students long before the students themselves do.

7. Ruk Jana Nahin – Imtihan (1974)

Another amazing song in Kishore Kumarji’s voice from the movie ‘Imtihan’. The lyrics motivate you to keep going and not stop in times of difficulties, serving as a reminder that life has its ups and down, the key is to never give up!

8. Ichak Dana Bichak Dana – Shree 420 (1955)

Lata Mangeshkar’s soulful voice along with Mukhesh’s melodious voice makes this song lovable and fun, and that’s exactly what this song was meant to be! A playful riddle highlighting how teachers spread joy and happiness to their students, Ichak Dana Bichak Dana leaves you smiling and pumped up.

9. Sir Sir O Sir We Love You – Sir (1993)

Sir, the 1993 movie focuses on a teacher attempting to reform his troubled students, and ‘Sir Sir O Sir We Love You’ was a favourite in the 90s! Directed by Anu Malik, this song is a direct tribute from students to their beloved teacher.

10. Kholo Kholo – Taare Zameen Par (2007)

The melodious guitar grips you the moment this song starts- Kholo Kholo from Taare Zameen Par, is a  reminder to break free from the box and embrace different perspectives of life while embracing one’s true self- a lesson that mentor’s work hard to give their proteges. This aligns with the movie’s theme, where Aamir Khan tries his best for Ishan, his student, to embrace his creativity and true self.

From the innocence of Ichak Dana to the soul-stirring prayer of Humko Mann Ki Shakti Dena, from the life-lessons of Insaf Ki Dagar Pe to the motivational Ruk Jana Nahin, these songs are not just melodies—they’re reflections of the timeless student–teacher bond.
